Accuplacer

The purpose of this test is to provide a student with useful information about academic skills in math, English, and reading. The results, in conjunction with your academic background, goals, and interests, are used by academic advisors to help determine course selection.  Two year postsecondary schools and technical schools usually require this test, such as Nicolet Area Technical College.

Rhinelander High School (RHS) provides an opportunity for juniors and seniors to take the Accuplacer at Nicolet College during the fall and spring with transportation provided by RHS.  There is no cost to take the test as long as the student meets with the Nicolet College Representative ahead of time to go over the test prep.   Please check announcements and calender for dates for the students to sign up in the Student Services office.

Advanced Placement (AP) Exam

Many colleges, but not all, offer students the opportunity to receive college credits for scores on AP exams. Students should review this option with schools they are considering. AP Exams are given each year in May at Rhinelander High School. To learn more about AP Exams, please contact your Rhinelander High School AP teacher.

ACT/ SAT Testing

The ACT Test is the college admission test most commonly taken by Rhinelander High School students who plan on attending a 4 year college/university. Students should review the specific requirements of schools that they are considering to see if either the ACT or SAT is required. Either test can be retaken. All Wisconsin 11th grade students are required to take the ACT at their high school.

Information is available in the Student Services Office or online.

ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)

The ASVAB is being offered at RHS to aid our Juniors and Seniors in learning more about themselves and the world of work.  Students will explore occupations in line with their skills and interests. This comprehensive career exploration and planning program includes a multiple-aptitude battery test, a career interest inventory, and an interpretation on what the resulting scores and interests mean for a student’s future.  Schools may choose to allow students’ scores to be released to military recruiting services—RHS has chosen not to have  scores released.

The ASVAB Career Exploration Program provides both web-based and printed materials to help students consider their results and explore possible career choices.  Each student will be given their own access code to explore various options at the ASVAB Program website.  With links to the Occupational Outlook Handbook and the Department of Labor’s OCCU-FIND websites, our students can continually explore the world of work that awaits them post-academia.  We also encourage you to explore this website.  Please check the announcements for testing dates held in the fall and spring at RHS.

PSAT/NMSQT Test (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test)

The PSAT/NMSQT may be taken by 10th and 11th graders if they wish to be considered in the National Merit Scholarship Competition.

The National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a highly competitive scholarship program that is allocated to those that place in approximately the top 1% of all 11th grade scores worldwide. Currently 1.5 million U.S. students participate in this exam. The National Merit Scholarship is only for juniors.

For more information on this exam, visit the National Merit website.

The PSAT/NMSQT is held in the month of October.   Please watch the announcements for further details.
