Students preparing for the future should think about mathematics preparation. Virtually all post high school choices require mathematics. Whether students choose to enter the world of work right out of high school, attend college or technical school, complete an apprenticeship, or seek other options, a solid mathematics background will positively affect their future. Today's competitive world economy calls for a well trained and educated labor force. Students should not sell themselves short. Students should prepare for the future now by including a well planned mathematics curriculum in their high school education.
Two credits of Mathematics are required for graduation. All freshman are required to be enrolled in at least one mathematics course. More may be elected. Any course offered may be used to meet the two credits of mathematics required for high school graduation.
Students thinking about attending a college or university will have to consider entrance requirements. All schools in the UW-System require the sequence of Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra for admission. Students considering applying to a competitive school should note that four credits of mathematics will make them stronger candidates for admission.
Once admitted to college, students will find that many majors require college level mathematics courses. The more high school mathematics students have had, the better prepared they will be to meet these requirements.
