RESA welcomes and relies upon adult volunteers to donate their time. On occasion volunteers are needed to drive students to research sites in vehicles provided by the School District.
Most of our sites are within 15 miles of the school, with most of research taking place at Treehaven, located between Rhinelander and Tomahawk. Drivers have the option to stay with the group and participate in our activities, or they can drop off the students and return later to pick them up.
Volunteers are also sometimes needed to drive and chaperon when there is a field trip or an overnight outing. Parents and interested community members are also invited to serve on the RESA Governing Council, help with the newsletter, or to assist with classwork in other ways.
Guest speakers and guest instructors from environmental agencies, such as the DNR, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Oneida County Extension Service, will be under the supervision of the lead instructor and do not need to fill out a form. All other volunteers, including parents, need to register in these steps:
- Fill out a background check and submit it to Principal Teri Phalin. Once approved, this allows you to volunteer anywhere within the School District of Rhinelander.
- It is the volunteer's responsibility to check to see if the background check has been completed. This can take anywhere from two to six weeks.
- Once the background check is complete, sign the volunteer agreement. When you are volunteering, you will need to sign in at the office and wear a name tag during school hours.
- If you plan on being a volunteer driver, fill out and submit the volunteer driver form along with a copy of your current driver's license. Approval usually takes one to two weeks, and it is your responsibility to confirm that you have been approved. For the fastest processing, apply directly at the District Office.
Volunteers are approved by the School Board at each monthly meeting, held on the third Monday. Everyone who works with children within the District is required to fill out such forms, and we appreciate your patience.
