In our students’ near future, the abilities to think, imagine, create, reason, invent, and problem solve will be the most valuable commodities a job hunter can possess! In a STEM/STEAM period or a Genius hour; Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math are combined to create a high-energy, engaging springboard for our students to leap into new concepts. Students involved in STEAM events (whether multiple times a week or less) often display the ability to take risks, use imaginative thinking, and persevere through setbacks with more regularity than those who do not. This session will highlight several fantastic STEAM sessions we have conducted with our students, as well as introduce you to many sites you can visit (and bookmark) to explore STEAM/STEM/Genius sessions with your students.

Because, inquiring minds want to know! Inquiry projects engage student curiosity and allow students to access information that is important to them. Tina and Wendy have collaborated on inquiry projects with second graders to help them access information in the world around them. Students begin each project with an essential question and are guided to write their own questions and are given resources to help them answer their questions. You will be guided through the process of creating inquiry projects, finding resources, and creating authentic products for your students that fit perfectly into your curricular areas. Tina and Wendy are excited to walk you through their journey of using inquiry projects!
