Enrollment Policy-Students may elect to enroll in an online course under the following circumstances
- The course is not currently offered by the School District of Rhinelander
- The course is currently offered: however, the student will not be able to take it due to an unavoidable scheduling conflict
- The course may supplement homebound instruction
- The student who has been expelled may continue their education via online instruction as part of the expulsion order
- The building administrator/pupil services director, with agreement of the student’s teachers and parent(s)/guardian(s), determines that the student requires a differentiated or accelerated learning environment.
- The course must be taken from a list of approved vendors.
- The building administrator or his/her designee will determine the maximum number of credits a student can earn online.
- The courses must be aligned to the state and national standards. Those courses which do not meet that rigor must include supplemental materials/activities to ensure content validity. Exams and assessments will be proctored by the local mentor/LEG.
- Students wanting to take an online course must complete a student application form, which includes a pre-course survey to determine eligibility and skills necessary to succeed in an online environment and submit it to the building administrator or his/her designee for approval.
- Students taking online courses must be enrolled in the district as a full or part-time student as defined by board policy.
- Students seeking credit recovery would be eligible to take an online class to make up their credit. The modules they are required to complete will be based on the student’s individual needs, as determined by online vendor policy.
- Students will be required to physically attend on site and meet with their mentor/LEG to enroll in a course. Students must take a course during the regular school day at the school site or they may be approved for remote access by administration under special circumstances or as part of a virtual program.

Dropping a Course
-
The district pays the tuition and other fees related to an approved online course.
-
In most cases, students may drop a course within the first two weeks of the start of the course without penalty of payment or failure.
-
If the student drops the course after the first two weeks, a W/F grade will be received for the course and they will be expected to reimburse the district for the cost of the course.
-
If the student does not complete the course successfully and chooses to enroll in another online course, they must provide the tuition fee prior to enrollment and will be reimbursed by the district upon successful completion.

Grades and Credits
- Students and parents may check the course grade book for student progress/grades at any time. The online teacher will assign the percentage for the class. A letter grade will then be assigned based on the grading scale for the equivalent course at RHS or JWMS.
- Applicable online courses will be handled as a transfer course and be listed on RHS transcripts as credit from the virtual school vendor.
- Applicable online courses will be listed as a virtual course worth 0.5 credits along with satisfying the appropriate scope and sequence for NCSS students.
- Students may take two online courses per year, equivalent to one credit. Once the student demonstrates mastery of this mode of learning, the student may take more courses with approval.
