Northwoods Community Secondary School 6-12 Track

NCSS strives to combine high expectations and an meaningful course of study with powerful, sustained involvement of caring adults who mentor, advise, and support students throughout their educational career.

The educational program is driven by the following school wide goals:

  • Establish a learning environment that is safe and stimulates a high expectation for academic success.
  • Forge powerful teacher/student relationships that sustain quality learning.
  • Create a variety of project-based opportunities for students to achieve academic success.
  • Provide a central resource center that is text-rich, technologically flexible, and geared toward the accomplishment of a wide variety of project design, development, and implementation.
  • Build strong accountability measurements that will access the learning inherent in each project.
  • Establish strong assessment measures that guide and inform continuous improvement.

In order to accomplish these goals and become a productive member of the NCSS community virtual students are required to attend NCSS at least half-time. Virtual students will work with the district coordinator along with an advisor to develop the SST.

NCSS virtual students’ curriculum will be primarily project based with the following optional components:

  • 1 class per semester at JWMS or RHS
  • Online course(s)
  • Self paced text book coursework

All virtual students are required to meet the same curricular expectations as the traditional students at the same grade level.
