Food Service

The Food Service staff looks forward to serving your child a nutritious breakfast and lunch every day.  We are dedicated to providing students with healthy food choices that taste good too.

The National School Lunch Program is a federally assisted meal program operating in all Rhinelander Public Schools.  It provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to all students.  We serve about 1800 lunches every day.

  • Did you know that school lunches must meet the Dietary Guidelines for Americans?  That means that no more than 30 percent of calories come from fat and a lunch provides over one-third of the standards for protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, iron, calcium and calories.  And no super-sizing!
  • School meals are planned by a Registered Dietitian to reflect the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, USDA's My Plate, and student preferences.  Food specifications and food preparation assist in this effort.
  • The food service program, as an extension of the educational programs of the schools, is operated under the federally funded National School Lunch Act and Child Nutrition Act. The federal laws regulating the food service programs are administered by the United States Department of Agriculture through the regional office and implemented by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

School Breakfast is offered at all schools and provides over one-quarter of a child’s daily needs.  We serve about 1300 breakfasts daily.

We encourage you to visit your child’s cafeteria and join them for breakfast and/or lunch.  Our 30 Food Service Professionals take pride in serving education every day.
