Imagine a School Where...

"Students solve their own conflicts on the playground, feel safe enough to discuss concerns and problems with teachers and classmates, share ideas for school improvement with their principal, and are never afraid to ride on the bus or where adults are not present."

Building The Caring School Community Every Day

  • In weekly class meetings and daily "check-ins" with their teacher, children have the opportunity to help build the "Caring School Community".
  • In class meetings students and teachers discuss and problem solve issues that come up in a participatory, caring manner.
  • Daily check-ins help the teacher and students monitor progress being made on the social concerns brought to the weekly class meetings.
  • Students and Staff are using a set of "School-wide Behavior Expectations" to teach four principles that we all need to learn and use in our lives:  "Be Safe", "Be Responsible",  and "Be Respectful" in a "Caring" manner.
  • Specific behaviors are taught, practiced and worked on throughout the year using these principles in all areas of the school and school day.
  • All school staff and bus drivers are involved with the students to help them learn to be safe, responsible, and respectful in a caring way.

The Caring School Community

Principles Provide for:

  • Respectful, supportive relationships among students, teachers and families.
  • Frequent opportunities to help and collaborate with others.
  • Frequent opportunities for autonomy and influence.
  • Emphasis on common purposes and ideals.
