After School Programming

CHAMPS and CAP General Information and Registration

The School District of Rhinelander is currently accepting registrations for the CHAMPS (Community Helping Afterschool to Mold Positive Students) afterschool program.

CHAMPS at Crescent is a grant funded program for 4K - 3rd grade that offers academic enrichment, recreation and health and safety programming. It offers 4 family nights per year and teams up with other agencies from Oneida County (sheriff's department, health department, 4H) who share their resources and expertise. CHAMPS runs Monday through Friday each week from right after school until 5:30 pm. Each day, CHAMPS students are offered a free snack and carton of milk. They have a quick snack and then head outside for 15 minutes of playtime. From 3:30-4:30, the program has an academic power hour. This is a time that the students participate in a variety of enrichment activities. After the academic power hour is finished at 4:30 each day, 20-30 minutes of homework help is provided. Throughout the year, high interest classes are offered that the students sign up for. Some examples: drumming, yoga, dance, painting, environmental studies, iPads, and baseball. Throughout the year, Wacky Wednesday's are offered. On these days the schedule is changed and the students may work on iPads, have some type of physical activity, play board games, work on arts and crafts, work on cup stacking, create plays, work on writing and many other activities.

CHAMPS (Community Helping After-School to Mold Positive Students)

CHAMPS is an after school program that began in 2008 at James Williams Middle School. It is supported by a 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant, which is a collaborative effort by the School District of Rhinelander, Oneida County UW-Extension, and Nicolet Area Technical College.  In the 2009-2010 school year, we added a CHAMPS program at Central School, and programming is now offered at Northwoods Community Secondary School (NCSS) and at Crescent Elementary School.

MOCK (Mentoring Oneida County Kids)

Mentoring Oneida County Kids (MOCK) is a school-community partnership that matches caring adults with School District of Rhinelander students. Community members meet one-on-one during the school day to provide support and encouragement so that the youth of today become the leaders of tomorrow. The MOCK program is fortunate to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters. Their program mirrors the MOCK program, so the match is a perfect fit.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor to a School District of Rhinelander student, please visit the Big Brothers Big Sisters website by clicking here.
